Shiavax Chavda
1914-1990Shiavax Chavda was born in 1914 in Navsari, Gujarat.
In 1935 he received his Diploma in Fine Arts from Sir JJ School of Art. In 1938 he received his Diploma in Fine Arts from Slade School, London. In 1937 he graduated at Academie de la Grande Chaumiere, Paris.
He had several solo shows and participated in several group shows:
In 1945 he exhibited solo in Mumbai followed by several solo exhibitions in Indonesia, Singapore, London, Paris and Switzerland. In 1946 he participated in a group show at the UNESCO International exhibition. In 1951 he took part in a group show at Salon De Mai in Paris. In 1952 and 1956 he participated in group shows in Singapore and Paris. In 1987 he took part in a group exhibition, 'Indian Drawing Today’ at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai.
Shiavax passed away in 1990.
In 1992 he was posthumously exhibited in ‘Indian, European and Oriental Paintings and Work of Art' at Sotheby's Auction in New Delhi. In 1993 and 2017 he was posthumously exhibited in two retrospectives at the Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 2011 he was exhibited in 'Ethos V: Indian Art Through the Lens of History (1900 to 1980)’ at Indigo Blue Art, Singapore.
