Rekha Rodwittiya
1958Rekha Rodwittiya was born in Bangalore in 1958. She studied B.A. (painting) in 1981 at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Baroda and at the Royal College of Art, London (MA 1984, on the Inlaks Scholarship).
The female figure has been a focus in her early works. Her early years at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Baroda laid the foundations of what now stands as a politically alert feminist practice of painting. Over the recent years, one can see Rekha Rodwittiya explore the archetypal figuration of the female form in a celebratory mode.
Her works have been included in many prestigious group exhibitions in India and abroad, including the VI International Triennial, New Delhi (1986), India in Switzerland: Six Young Contemporaries, Geneva (1987) and Inside Out: Women Artists of India, touring exhibition in the UK (1995-96).
Her works are in various private and public collections in India, U.K., U.S.A., Brazil, Italy, West Germany, Switzerland, Sweden and the Netherlands. Rekha Rodwittiya currently lives and works in Baroda.
