Suman Roy was born in 1968 in Kolkata.

He was the son of legendary artist Suhas Roy. After completing his final year from Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan, he moved to Kolkata. His primary focus was to create Human presence in his works. He reached his pinnacle after creating the Christ series for which he is well known.

He had numerous solo exhibitions and participated in several group shows at Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. In 2008 he participated in 'Faces' at Tao Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 2010 he took part in 'Black is Beautiful' at India Fine Art, Mumbai. In 2010 he took part in 'Evolve: 10th Anniversary Show' at Tao Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 2010 he took part in the Annual Exhibition at Chawla Art Gallery, New Delhi. In 2014 he was showcased in a group show ‘ Meher - Art with a Heart’ at Gallery 7 , Kalaghoda.

Suman Roy passed away in 2012.
