Debabarata Chakrabarti was born in 1959 in Kolkata.

In 1971 he completed his studies from Govt. College of Art & Craft, Kolkata.

In 1995 he had a solo exhibition of metal sculptures at Art Heritage, New Delhi.

He participated in various group exhibitions:
In 1986 he participated in a group exhibition in London. In 2002 he participated in a group exhibition of 30 bronze sculptures at Cymroza Gallery, Mumbai.

He has received several awards:
He has received the Birla Academy Award, the State Lalit Kala Academy Award and has also been honored by the Academy Award from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. He received the ‘Shelter Promotion Award’ (International) for paintings.
