M. G. Kidwai was born in 1951 in Lucknow.

In 1974 he received his degree in B. F. A. from Lucknow University, Uttar Pradesh. In 1977 he received his degree in M. F. A. from M. S. University, Baroda.

Kidwai was had several solo exhibitions:
In 1986 he exhibited solo at Alliance Française, Delhi. In 1994 he had a solo exhibition at Taj Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 1985, 1988, 1992 and 1995 he exhibited solo at Shridharani Art Gallery, New Delhi. In 1988, 1990, 1997 and 2006 he showcased solo at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai.

He participated in several group shows:
In 1983 he took part in a group show at Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi. In 1992 he took part in a group show Greenwood Gallery, New Delhi. In 1986 and 1992 he showcased in group shows at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 1990 and 1992 he took part in group exhibitions at Dhoomimal Art Gallery, New Delhi. In 1992 and 1999 he participated in group shows at Lalit Kala Academy, Lucknow.

He has received many awards and scholarships:
He won the National Scholarship for Sculpture from the Government of India, New Delhi for 1975 – 1977. In 1977 he won the Certificate of Merit from Lalit Kala Academy, Baroda. He was granted the Jr. Research Fellowship & the Sr. Research Fellowship for Sculpture from the Government of India, New Delhi for 1980 - 1982 and 1997 - 1999. In 1988 he won an award from Bombay Art Society, Mumbai. In 1985 he won an award from AIFACS, New Delhi. In 1993 he won an award from Sahitya Kala Parishad, New Delhi. In 2005 he received an award from Lalit Kala Academy, Punjab. In 2011 he received the Eminent Artist and Professor Samman from Lucknow Arts College.

Kidwai lives and works in Lucknow.
