Navjot Altaf
1949Navjot Altaf was born in 1949 in Meerut.
In 1972 she received his degree in Fine and Applied Arts from Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai. In 1981 she received his Graphics degree from Garhi Studios, New Delhi.
She had several solo and two person exhibitions:
From 1983 – 2004 she exhibited solo in several exhibitions in Mumbai, Germany, New Delhi, Japan, UK, Chattisgarh, New York, Ireland and Israel. In 1983, 1990 and 1994 she had solo exhibitions at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 1984, 1987, 1990, 1994 and 1997 she showcased solo in several exhibitions at Gallery 7, Mumbai. From 2005 – 2013 she exhibited solo in Mumbai, New Delhi and New York. In 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2013 she had solo exhibitions at Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai and Talwar Gallery, New Delhi. In 1976 and 1979 she participated in Works on Paper with Altaf at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 1985 she exhibited in a joint show with Altaf at Zeitgenossische Indische Kunst, Werl in Germany. In 1988 she participated in Water Colors with Altaf at Triveni Art Gallery, New Delhi. In 1991, 1994 and 2000 she participated in a joint exhibitions with Altaf at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai; Prithvi Gallery, Mumbai and Guild Gallery, Mumbai. In 1993 she took part in a joint exhibition, Water Color and Acrylic Paintings, with Altaf at Nehru Centre, Mumbai and at Sakshi Gallery, Chennai and Mumbai.
She participated in several group exhibitions:
In 1973, 1984, 1987, 1991, 1992, 1995 and 1997 she exhibited at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 1983 she took part in the 8th International Prints Biennale at Bradford, England. In 1985 she took part in the First International Biennale of Prints at Sao Paolo, Brazil. In 1986 she participated in the 1st International Graphic Biennale at Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal. In 1988 she took part in the 3rd Paintings Biennale at Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal. In 1990 - 1991 she participated in the 7th International Painting Triennale, New Delhi; Bangalore and Chennai. In 1992 she took part in Silver Jubilee West Zone at Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata. In 1994 - 1995 she exhibited in Graphic Exhibition at Centre of International Modern Art (CIMA), Kolkata. In 1994 and 1998 she took part in 50 Years of Mumbai Artist's at National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai. In 1999 she participated in Fukuoka Asian Art Triennial at Fukuoka, Japan. In 2001 she took part in Bombay/Mumbai: City Politics and Visual Culture in the 90’s at Tate Modern, London. In 2003 she took part in the 8th Havana Biennale at Havana, Cuba. In 2003 she took part in a group exhibition at National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai. In 2006 she participated in Zones of Contact at the XV Sydney Biennale in Sydney, Australia. In 2007 - 2008 she participated in India Art Now: Between Continuity and Transformation in Milan, Italy. In 2009 she exhibited in a group show, Bapu at Berkeley Square Gallery, London and took part in a group exhibition at Talwar Gallery, New York. In 2013 she exhibited in The Naked and the Nude: The Body in Indian Modern Art at Delhi Art Gallery, New Delhi. In 2017 she took part in Interpositions: Replaying the Inventory at Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi.
She has won several awards:
From 1968 - 1972 she won various prizes for Drawings and Paintings as Student of the Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai. In 1971 she won the Bombay Art Society's Annual Art Exhibition award in Mumbai. In 1980 she received the Maharashtra State Art Exhibition award in Mumbai. In 1983 she received the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society award in New Delhi.
