Sunil Padwal was born in 1968 in Mumbai.

In 1989 he received his degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts from Sir J. J. Institute of Applied Art, Mumbai.

He had several solo shows:
In 1994, 1997, 2000 and 2008 he exhibited solo at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 2007 he exhibited Numb at Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi. In 2011 - 2012 he had a solo show Soliloquies: Notes from the Drawing Book at Gallery BMB, Mumbai.

He participated in several group exhibitions:
From 1996 - 2000 he took part in the Harmony Show at Nehru Centre, Mumbai. In 2009 he took part in The Miniature Format Show at Sans Tache Gallery, Mumbai. In 2010 he participated in Evolve: 10th Anniversary Show at Tao Art Gallery, Mumbai. From 1995 – 1997, 1999, 2008 and 2009 he had several group exhibitions at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 2010 he took part in Master’s Corner at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumba and India International Art Fair, New Delhi. From 1996 – 2011 he participated in several group shows in Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Munich and Hong Kong. In 1997, 1999 and 2000 he took part in group shows at National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai.

In 1990 he received the Communication Artist's Guild Award. In 1998 he won the Emerging Artist of the Year award at The Harmony Show III at Nehru Centre, Mumbai.

Sunil lives and works in Mumbai.
