Vijay Shinde

1958-2014

Vijay Shinde was born in 1958 in Kurduwadi, Maharashtra.

In 1982 he completed his art education from Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai.

He had several solo shows:
In 1983 and 1984 he had solo shows at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 1983, 1985, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1996 and 1997 he exhibited solo at Gallery 7, Mumbai. In 1990 he had a solo show at National Centre for Performing Arts, Mumbai. In 1992 he has a solo exhibition at Gallery 7 in Hong Kong. In 2000 he had a solo exhibition, Spiritual Journey at Easel Art Gallery, Chennai.

He participated in several group shows:
From 1985-1989 he participated in group shows in Mumbai and New Delhi. In 1991 he exhibited his works in Helpage India at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 1992 he exhibited his works in the Inaugural Exhibition at Husain Ki Sarai, New Delhi. In 1995 he exhibited his works in a group show at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 1998 he took part in ‘Footprints of a Tryst’ at National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai. In 1999 he participated in multiple group shows in Mumbai, Pune and Tamil Nadu. In 1999 he participated in Cry For Peace with Chandra Doshi Sachdev at Jehangir Art Gallery and National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai. In 2000 and from 2014-2017 he was showcased in group shows in Mumbai. In 2010 he participated in a group show in Mumbai. In 2016 he showcased in a group show, Tantric: The Corporeal and the Cosmic at Aicon Gallery, New York.

He has won several awards:
In 1980, 1981 and 1984 he received awards from the Art Society of India and Bombay Art Society. In 1983 he received a Cultural Fellowship from the Government of India. In 1984 he won the National Award from Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi. In 1986 he won the 1st Biennale Award from Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal. In 1987 he won a Fellowship from Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. In 1990 he won the Maharashtra Gaurav Puraskar from the State Government of Maharashtra. In 2000 he received the Senior Fellowship Award from Government of India in New Delhi.

Vijay passed away in 2014 in Pune.
